I’ve been thinking about switching to larger containers that we can refill from bulk drums, and jerry cans seem like a practical option because they’re portable and easy to pour from. I was looking at some online and found the Jerry Cans section on a local supplier’s website that shows all the different sizes available, from 5 liters up to 30 liters, and they claim they’re suitable for chemicals and oils . But I’m slightly concerned about whether plastic is okay for long-term oil storage or if it degrades over time. I know the military-style metal ones are popular for fuel but they’re expensive and heavy. Has anyone here used the plastic ones for storing motor oil in a workshop environment? Do they handle the heat here without getting brittle? And can you clean them out and reuse them for different grades of oil or is that risky for cross-contamination? I’m trying to make a smarter choice for our storage but I don’t want to end up with a mess or damaged product.
